Memorial services for Dan Woolley, 70, of Coquille, will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Coquille Christian Community Church, 625 E. 10th St., with Ken Smith officiating.

Dan was born March 5, 1947 to George and Fern (Howard) Woolley in Myrtle Point.  Both parents are deceased, as is a brother, Jerry, who died in 2004.  He spent the first 44 years of his life in Myrtle Point, and graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1965.  He raised his two sons there while working in the logging industry.

Dan was active in civic affairs.  He served on the Myrtle Point City Council and was a member of the Myrtle Point Ambulance Associating.  In 1980, he received the Citizen of the Year award for growing developing the Emergency Medical Technician program.  His drive to teach and help others led him to Southwestern Oregon Community College where he was an EMT instruction for several years.

After three years of living and working in Southeast Alaska, he returned to Coquille, and married the light and love of his life, Mary Frances Farr in 1992.  He owned and operated Oregon Cedar L.L.C., in Bandon until retirement in 2014.

Retirement allowed Dan to focus on his true passion – spending time with Mary.  By her side, he was truly happy, whether in the backyard tending the roses or on the road finding their next adventure.

He was a member of Coquille Christian Community Church and thoroughly enjoyed serving there as an elder and volunteer extraordinaire, he also was a member of the Gideon's International.  His was the broad family shoulder, and his kindness and respect was especially evident in the loving care and attention he gave to family matriarch, Emma Frances Farr, in her 90s.

He was a gifted storyteller.  The listener was never quite sure if it was all true, but more often than not, it was.  He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing.  He was an avid woodworker, making many projects for the home and his children’s homes.

He felt he never knew a stranger, and his family knows he quietly helped many people along the way.  He never spoke ill of anyone and always looked to the bright side of issues.

Dan passed away March 21st, 2017, at home with Mary by his side, after a short battle with cancer.  He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Frances; brother, George Lee “Tim” Woolley of Eugene; children, Brett Woolley of Willamina, Derek Brice and wife April of San Clemente, CA, Casey Woolley and wife Liz of Woodburn, Dana Train and husband Jon of Roseburg, Dr. Devin Brice and wife Hahn of Coos Bay; fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Donations may be made in Dan’s remembrance to South Coast Hospice or the charity of you choice.
