A celebration of life for Bridge resident, Larry Ray Winter, will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017 at New Beginnings/Christian Assembly Church in Myrtle Point.

Larry was born September 11, 1938 in Goshen, Oregon, the son of Ray Huston and Eleanor Ann Winter.  He died February 25, 2017 in Myrtle Point at the age of 78.

He was raised and educated in Goshen until attending Springfield High School, where he graduated in 1956.  He served 2 years in the US Navy.

He married Charleen A. Alderman on June 18, 1957.

He worked at a sawmill in Jasper OR. then worked for Murphy Veneer in Springfield OR. until he transferred to Myrtle Point in the Summer of 1969.  In December of 1969 they moved to Bridge.  He worked several years in the trucking and timber industry.  In the late 1980’s he began as a reserve with the Coos County Sheriff Department and that led him to work with the county parks and as the Code Compliance Officer until his retirement.

He sang with the barbershop chorus in Eugene, played guitar, enjoyed motorcycle riding.  He and Charleen were members of ABATE.  He also loved his animals, especially his horses as he and Charleen owned and operated Winter Paint Horses.  He was also an avid Oregon Duck fan.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Charleen; daughters, Julie & Laurence Norry; Nadeen & John Frazier; Loreena & Ron Oerding; sister, Trisha Rosales; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one more due in May.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rhea Ann Tomseth.

We have lived across the street from Larry and Charleen for 17 years. Both are excellent neighbors and people. We never had a neighbor dispute and we could always depend on them when in need. We will miss Larry. Rest in Peace.
