A celebration of the life of Bandon resident, Dean A Russell, will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Amling Schroeder Funeral Service Bandon Chapel.

Dean was born January 11, 1931 in Marshfield, the son of Gareld and Gertrude Mintonye Russell.  He died August 20, 2013 in Bandon at the age of 82.

Dean was a lifelong resident of Coos County and a fourth generation Oregonian.  He graduated from Coquille High School in 1949.  He logged for a short time before serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  Following the war he returned to Oregon where he graduated in 1956 from OTI in Klamath Falls and then he married Carolyn Moody.

He worked for Hillstrom’s Shipbuilding for many years as a welder and shipbuilder, during which time he oversaw the building of the tug boat North Bend.  He finished his career at Southern Oregon Marine.  He was a past master of Blanco #48 Masonic Lodge, past patron of both Doric Chapter #53 OES and the Order of the Amaranth, and Associate Guardian of Job’s Daughters Bethels #68 and #17.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Carolyn; daughters and sons-in-law; Mary Louise Russell and Doug Buster, and Lynn Deane and Alan Lively; grandson and wife David and Liliana Lively; brothers James (wife Alma) and Horace “Tony” Russell.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law Derrill Moody and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Following the service family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Russell home.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital or the Bandon Historical Museum.
