Wayne Kennedy Obituary

Wayne Leon Kennedy, 86, passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2024, following a weekend surrounded by family and friends who loved him deeply. Born on June 30, 1938, in Smithville, Oklahoma, Wayne was the beloved son of Harris and Rose Kennedy and brother to Carol. His family later relocated to Oregon, where Wayne spent his formative years and built a life alongside his wife, Judy Kennedy, in Coquille, Oregon.

Wayne was a highly respected business owner, logger, and founder of Kennedy Logging. Judy worked alongside him, managing the bookkeeping while Wayne sustained and grew the business. Known for his hard work, strength of character, and dependability, Wayne earned the respect of everyone who knew him—family, friends, employees, and community members alike.

Together, Wayne and Judy raised five children and created a beautiful home. Wayne cherished time spent on Oregon’s waters, where he became an excellent fisherman and crabber. He also raised and competed with hunting hounds and built and managed numerous properties with Judy, including a beloved family cabin on Ten Mile Lake. After retiring, Wayne continued to share his passion for the water with his children and grandchildren, was spoiled with his favorite sweets from loved ones, hosted countless family holidays, and enjoyed poker nights and casino outings with friends.

Wayne and Judy’s lifelong partnership exemplified the love, support, kindness, and strength that inspire all who knew them. Their remarkable legacy is one of devotion to family, friends, and community. The values Wayne instilled in those he loved—hard work, integrity, and the importance of family—will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Wayne is survived by his children, Terry Kennedy, Tina Erickson, Troy Kennedy, Tonya Godden, and Tracey Frederick; his sister, Carol Foster; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish the lessons he imparted. He now joins Judy in heaven, who passed away just one week before him, where their beautiful love story continues after 60 wonderful years together.

Wayne’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and shared memories during this time. In memory of Wayne and Judy’s extraordinary life together, a joint celebration of life will be held on February 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge in Coquille, Oregon. All who wish to honor and celebrate their lives are welcome to attend.
