Funeral services for Coquille resident, Richard Nelson St.Onge, will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Center of Hope Assembly of God in Coquille. Private interment will take place at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Richard was born August 10, 1931 in Roseburg, the son of Ralph St.Onge and Eula (Wallen). He died Sunday, March 19, 2023 in Coquille at the age of 91. He lived most of his early life in Roseburg until he graduated high school and joining the Navy in September of 1950. He served as a Gunners Mate on the U.S.S. Los Angeles during the Korean Conflict. He married Betty Jones on December 28, 1951. After being discharged from the Navy he attended Eugene Bible College, graduating in 1956 with a Ministerial Degree. He pastored Grace Chapel in Eugene until 1966 and maintained his Ministerial License until his death. He worked in the mill industry building mills and running them in various locations. He moved to Myrtle Point in 1978 and worked for The Murphy Company until retiring. After retiring his wife Betty passed away in 2007. He married his second wife, Verla Fields on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2019 and moved to Coquille in 2020. They enjoyed each other’s company, taking drives and feeding birds at the park. He enjoyed not only being a Minister, but also camping, hunting, fishing and building little tractor crawlers and operating them. He also enjoyed seeing his grandchildren. He is survived by his Wife Verla; Daughters Jackie McDaniel & Husband David; Kathy Hill; Stepchildren Eli and Colleen Rea & Family; John and Virginia & Family; Grandchildren Sharon & Mike Crews; Shaun & Lisa McDaniel; Kallie Moldt; Great Grandchildren Jillian & Calysta McDaniel, Damian Moldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Betty, brothers Jim & Greg St.Onge, sister Marlene Welker. The family suggests memorials be made to Children’s Ministries c/o Center of Hope Assembly of God Church, 457 E. 2nd St., Coquille, OR. 97423. Arrangements are under the direction of Amling Schroeder Funeral Service, Coquille.
