April 16, 1942 ~ October 13, 2023 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Mearl McDaniel Jr. Obituary

Mearl McDaniel Jr. was born in April 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa to Mearl Sr. and Mildred McDaniel.

The family moved three years later and made Powers, Oregon their home.

Mearl graduated from PHS and married childhood sweetheart, Linda Anderson. The couple raised three ambitious children, David, Terri, and Tony.

Mearl worked through most of his life as a logger in the Oregon woods where he felt most at home with a chainsaw over his shoulder and sawdust on his boots.

Mearl volunteered for many years as a city councilor and mayor in Powers, spearheading several major projects in the 1990s for the community. Mearl was also an avid hunter, known for his tall tales and large collection of horns and mounts throughout the years.

On October 13, 2023, Mearl tragically lost his life. He was preceded in death by parents Mildred and Mearl McDaniel Sr., wife Linda McDaniel, and uncle Dale Shaffar, whom he considered like a brother.

Mearl leaves behind brothers Gary and Jack McDaniel, his three children David McDaniel, Terri Smith, and Tony McDaniel, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his passion for working with his hands, a unique sense of humor and creativity, and a love of the great outdoors.

Memorial services will be held November 5 at 2:00 PM at the Powers Senior Center (120 Fir Street) for friends and family.
