Marvin was born June 8, 1931 in Myrtle Point, to Emmett & Perna (Barklow) Hammack. He died August 1, 2021 at his home on Ward Creek.
After completing high school in Myrtle Point, he enlisted in the Navy. In September 1952, he completed Airman School. By January 1955, he had become an Aviation Machinists Mate, Third class, stationed in Pensacola, Florida. He reached the end of his active service in April of 1956. He was in the Naval Reserve until April 1960.
On June 8th, 1957, he married Verna Jeanne Davenport, at the home of her parents. In 1959, they bought their ranch on Ward Creek, & in 1967 they built a new house there, where they raised their 3 children.
For many years, Marvin was a truck driver, driving for West Coast Trucking (previously Johnson Trucking) the longest, then Fibrex, & lastly Stalcup, where he would retire. He also had worked at Pyramid Block in Myrtle Point.
On his ranch he raised cows and was probably most proud of the triplet heifer calves that were born in 1997. One of those triplets, Granny, lived to be 21 years old and had become pretty special to him, getting grain & alfalfa daily.
He also enjoyed taking his 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air to car shows & cruises, toting kids & grandkids along for the ride.
He liked to make trips to the beach, especially when it was stormy – just to watch, but was an avid agate finder!
He is survived by his son, Vic Hammack of Hampton, daughters & spouses, Toni & Darren Fults of Myrtle Point, and Traci & Tracy Byrd of Myrtle Point, and sister-in-law Helen Hammack of Seaside.
Grandchildren & spouses, Stacy & Jason Smith of Myrtle Point, Megan & Jeremy Peart of Cottage Grove, Kate & Tyler Sutherland of Redmond, Joe & Katherine Hammack of Tenmile, Lindsey Hammack & Ryan Hartje of Terrebonne, Ali Hale, Tana Hale, & Hayden Stevens of Myrtle Point, Pat & Caity Byrd of North Bend, Tehya & Danny Solomon of Sutherlin, Kyla Byrd, serving in the US Army & stationed in Louisiana, Keeley Byrd of Albany, & Ivan Byrd of Myrtle Point.
Great grandchildren, Tyler Smith of Myrtle Point, Davney & Myra Smith of Myrtle Point, Braiden & Zachary Peart of Cottage Grove, Paisley & Sawyer Hammack of Tenmile, Lyam & Hannah Hartje of Terrebonne, Bentley Solomon of Sutherlin, and Asher & Gunner Byrd of North Bend.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne in 2003, twin daughters Lisa Ann & Leslie Kay in 1963, and his parents.
