Marlene Valentine Obituary

Our dear sweet Mom, Marlene Valentine, joined her husband, Donald, (Pops) in heaven on December 16th, 2025.

Marlene Rhoda Valentine was born in Bradish, NE on 11/22/1934 to Herbert and Elizabeth Johnson.  She spent her early years on a farm, moved to Arizona for a short time, and finally settled down in Oregon.  She married Donald Valentine on 07/12/1959.  They were well matched because he liked to eat and she liked to cook.  They went on to raise 4 kids.  Mom was a homemaker, cake decorator, and caregiver through her life.  For 10 adventurous years, Marlene and Don worked as fire/equipment watchers in locations in the middle of nowhere for their son, Charlie.  You have to really like someone to spend that much time together. She and Pops also traveled the country in their little grey pickup to visit relatives in Idaho, Nebraska, and Washington.  One of their favorite destinations was Alaska to visit their son, Chris.

Marlene is survived by one brother, Richard Johnson and her sister, Norma Glock.

Mom’s spirit and love continues on through her kids; Charlie (Wendy), Chris (Teri), Marian (Mike), and Pat (Lina).  Also through her grandkids; Jake (Lois), Heather (Sam), Josh (Xochil), James (Madeleine), Briana, Kady (Daylen), Marcus (Marina) and Matthew.  Last, but not least, through the Greats; Emily, Elizabeth, Griffin, Clara, Charlotte, Violet and a bouncing baby boy that will join us in April.

Mom was famous for her fresh baked bread and cinnamon rolls. If you smell a whiff of freshly baked bread, raise a toast to our Mom. She’s in heaven’s kitchen baking away.

A special Thank You to the Med Techs and caregivers at Pacific View and South Coast Hospice for your care and compassion during our Mom’s final days.

A party to honor her memory will be held in the Spring.
