Lelia Hebebrand Obituary

Lelia Rozel (Smith) Hebebrand passed away into the Presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Bridge, Oregon on January 8, 2024. In an amazing timing, the Myrtle Point Baptist Church which she was an active member of had just joyfully celebrated her 107th birthday after the January 7th morning service.

She was always a warm, loving, generous, and godly woman. She worked hard to successfully beautify house and home. She was an avid reader and was strongly independent into her nineties until she lost so much of her sight to macular degeneration. She was the best of moms, fantastic grandmother, and wonderful great-grandmother.

Lelia was born on January 9,1917 to George and Martha (Sadler) Smith in Springfield, Ohio where she attended elementary through high school. She was the oldest of the Smith’s ten children (four brothers three of who died in infancy and five sisters). She met and married Theodore (Ted) Hebebrand in 1937. They moved to Warren, Ohio and lived there for ten years during which they had three children Roger (’39), Ted (’41), and Larry (’45).    In 1947 They moved to Phoenix, Arizonia where they had another son, David (’51). In 1952 they moved to California and eventually bought a house in Livermore, California. Along the way they had their fifth and last son, Mark (’54). After fifteen years in Livermore they moved to Manteca, California.

After her husband died in 1986 in Manteca, Lelia moved to be near her son David and his wife Eva in Porterville, California where she was active in the Porterville Nazarene Church. In 2001 David and family moved to Tehachapi, California and she moved and lived with them.

In 2013 she moved to Bridge, Oregon near Myrtle Point, Oregon to be with her son Larry and wife Etta Ree.  Three of her grandchildren and their families lived in the Myrtle Point area. She really enjoyed being around grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lelia was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers, two of her sisters, her husband Ted, and three of her sons, Roger, Ted, and Mark.

She leaves behind two sons, Larry Hebebrand, and David Hebebrand, four daughters-in-law (Jan, Etta Ree, Eva, and Teresa) Hebebrand, and Eighteen grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
