Lawrence (Larry) Allen Northup passed away in Broadbent, Oregon on May 5, 2024. Lawrence was born on December 11, 1951, in Myrtle Point to Mildred and Keith Northup. He graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1970.
After high school, Lawrence joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, serving tours on the USS Oriskany (CVA-43), USS Coral Sea (CV-43), and the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). While serving at Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA Lawrence met fellow sailor Kathy Reynolds. Lawrence and Kathy were married in November of 1979 and have remained husband and wife as well as best friends for 44 years.
Lawrence earned an AS degree in Auto Science from the College of Alameda, and after leaving the Navy, he pursued a career working for the State of California Bureau of Auto Repair.
Lawrence was kindhearted and friendly. He had the gift of gab and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed help. Lawrence was a terrific father to his two sons and always present to meet their needs and was very proud of them both. In 2017 Lawrence came home to Broadbent and settled in on the property next to his childhood home. Here he became a chicken ‘daddy’ to his 9 hens and 2 roosters. He loved working with his hands and was always busy with a project for home, family, or friends. Larry enjoyed watching his favorite football team the San Francisco 49ers and his favorite baseball team the SF Giants. He enjoyed playing “Tanks” on the Nintendo WII. Larry loved coffee and had a sweet tooth for black jellybeans and maple bars.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his father Keith Allen Northup, and his mother Mildred Ariline Harris Northup.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Kathy, son Jason Northup and daughter-in-law Olga of Winton, CA, son Justin Northup and daughter-in-law Crystal of Chesapeake, VA, grandchildren – Ciana, Liam, and Easton of Chesapeake, VA, sister Iris Dains and brother-in-law Dennis Dains of Broadbent, OR, sister Alice of Ohio, and brother Richard Northup and sister-in-law Denesa Rains Northup of Myrtle Point, OR, and sister-in-law Karen Reynolds of Atwater, CA. A celebration of life is scheduled on July 19, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Broadbent Community Church in Broadbent, Oregon, Officiated by Stanley Stewart.
