Kathleen Hubbard Obituary

Kathleen (Kathy) May Mewton Coombe Hubbard, died March 2, 2023 in Bandon.  Kathy was born August 23. 1937 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Cyril Jack and Irene Georgina (Cowling) Mewton.  Kathy’s only sibling, brother Douglas, eight years her elder and grandfather, George A. Mewton, rounded out their family.

Kathy and Al Coombe married in Detroit in August 1956, where they lived for several years near both their families and enjoyed the love and close friendship with them all.  Al & Kathy had no children but Doug and his wife Barbara had six children; Douglas, Mary, Susan, Barbara, Kevin and Sharon, so they were part of their lives during the “growing up years”.

Kathy and Al often traveled to Arizona on vacations and, in 1980, they moved to Phoenix.  Kathy worked as a legal secretary at the law firm of Fennemore Craig for several years, a job she really enjoyed.  When her father passed away, her mother moved to Arizona to live near Kathy and Al.

After two trips to the Oregon Coast, Al, Kathy and Mom, decided that was where they wanted to live.  They settled in Bandon in Spring 1989 and truly enjoyed their retirement.  Kathy and her mother were long standing members of the Bandon First Presbyterian Church, where John W. Hubbard was Pastor.  Later, Kathy became Elder and Deacon there.  She and Georgie enjoyed the close friendship of many people during those years.  Georgie passed away at 92 in 1997.  Husband Al passed away in 2008 at the age of 79.  God rest their souls.

In 2010, Cheron, Pastor Hubbard’s wife of 51 years, passed away following a long illness, leaving John and their four adult children; Terrance, Darla, Michael and Kathleen.

In early 2012, then-retired John and Kathy began keeping company and, on August 12, 2012, they married at the Bandon Presbyterian Church picnic in Bullard’s Beach State Park.  Most of the congregation was in attendance that blessed day.  A perfect match, John and Kathy celebrated almost six blessed, loving, happy and wonderful years together.  John passed away on November 30, 2018 at home with his loving wife and family around him.  God rest his soul.

A Celebration of Kathy’s life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Bandon First Presbyterian Church.  Arrangements are under the direction of Amling Schroeder Funeral Service, Bandon.
