John Lindegren Obituary

John (Big John) James Lindegren, 67, beloved friend to all, sadly died in Myrtle Point, Oregon, on October 31st, 2025.

John and his twin sister, (Jordi) Hjordis, were born in North Bend, Oregon, on July 8, 1958. While John adventured to many other places, Coos County was always home. He grew up in Coquille and lived in Myrtle Point for many years before his passing. It seemed everyone knew and had love for Big John.

John was a gun enthusiast, an animal lover, a mountain man, a carpenter, an assistant hunting guide in Alaska, a survivalist, a jack of all trades, and a teller of tall tales.

John was a part of the Sawdust Theatre, helping build sets for shows on many occasions over the last ten-plus years. He was a man who loved his community. John would pay to have animals cremated for his friends so they could keep a part of a missing loved one.

For many years, John was part of a duo around Myrtle Point: Big John and his big dog, Atlas. Always walking around town, John was happy for the impromptu conversations with the city's residents and his many friends.

With a booming and infectious laugh, it was hard not to like the massive man who was “Big John”.

John is survived by three cousins. Noreen Olson of Bismarck, ND. Kathy Burton of Nisswa, MN, and Mary Ann Cole of Huron, SD. And of course, his beloved sidekick, Atlas.

He was preceded in death by his father, James L. Lindegren. His mother, Carole (Homan) Lindegren. His twin sister Hjordis Lindegren. Grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and his companion, Carolyn Prola.
