Joanne Ellis Obituary

Joanne L. Ellis passed away peacefully in her home on March 23,2025. Joanne was born March 13, 1935, in Ashland Oregon. She married Bill Ellis on June 8,1957 in Bandon, Oregon and they were married for 67 years.  Joanne was a veteran having served in The United States Army for two years beginning in 1955 and was discharged with the rank of Sargent. Bill and Joanne raised their family in their home on 4th street in Bandon where they have lived for 65 years.

Joanne worked as a bookkeeper for William H. Johnston and later worked at Bandon Coast to Coast. Joanne had a passion for gardening, quilting, sewing, wood carving, and raising tropical fish. She and Bill liked to travel and hunt and fish. She was a great fan of major league baseball and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan.

Joanne was a loving wife and mother whose home was always open to the neighborhood kids and she was loved by all who knew her. She was an avid reader and encouraged many of those visiting children to love reading too.

She was preceded in death by her brother Ron Hunt and her mother, Harriet Lightle.

She is survived by her husband and best friend Bill Ellis, her sister Ande Hofmann, daughter Peggy Hall Donahue and her husband Pat, son, Gary Ellis, grandsons, Justin Hall and his wife Heidi and Jason Hall and his wife Addie as well as great grandchildren Nick, Maddy, Ally, Jacob, Gaia, and Lonnie Hall.

Joanne was a beloved and active  member of the Bandon community and was loved by and will be missed by friends and family alike.

A private graveside will be held in April.
