It is with bittersweet feelings that we share the news of the passing of Gary Ekker of Bandon. Gary, a brother in Jesus Christ, is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father following a difficult battle with brain cancer.
Gary passed into glory on January 31st at Southern Coos Hospital. He was 70 years old.
Gary was born in Myrtle Point, Oregon November 8, 1951. He was raised in Coquille and eventually left the area to join the United States Marine Corps. After a tour of duty during the Vietnam conflict he returned to Bandon and had lived in the Bandon area ever since. He was preceded by his father, Farrel and his mother, Edra. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cindy and his sister, Marilyn as well as many friends.
Gary was active in his local church, especially motivated to contribute to youth events and he was also an elder. Gary loved science and technology and was an active amateur radio operator from the age of 16 when he received his first federal license. Radio operators around the world enjoyed his companionship and dedication to the hobby.
Gary also loved horticulture and landscaping and he spent copious amounts of time and energy shaping his property. This creative energy also manifested itself in his love of throwing pots.
The closest family and friends of Gary know that this passing is but a means into a greater life and glory and that all in Christ will be reunited with him for eternity. Gary would want everyone to know this truth as well.
A celebration of his life and his new life will be held March 12th at 11:00 am at Pacific Community Church, 48967 Highway 101, Bandon. All are welcome to attend. A time of fellowship and food will be provided.
