Oct 12 1929 Wayne Groff made his arrival on Water St. in Newberg Oregon as the 5th out of 9 children born to Wayne C Groff and Helen Elizabeth Mow. He is survived by his wife Maybelle C Groff, his 7 children and oodles of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne was friendly, outgoing and passionate about all that he did. He continued to express himself for almost 95 years until his Lord and Savior called him home to his final resting place on Oct 5 2024.
Wayne was born one week before the stock market crashed and the beginning of the Great Depression. He was always telling stories which are now like a time capsule from another age. He would tell of the adventures, struggles, and lessons learned being part of a family that lived through the Great Depression. Once Wayne finally “retired” he began to write down some of his fondest memories about the people he met, jobs he did and places he visited. Wayne was a hard worker and as a logger found himself working all across Oregon. For the 20 years that he was away from Oregon he found himself as a heavy equipment operator/ diesel mechanic in Puerto Rico for 8 years followed by 12 years in Kentucky before returning to his beloved Oregon.
He loved the Lord , his family, and he loved the timber. Wayne always had time to talk and had a smile and a handshake for all.
A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the First Community Church of Port Orford.
