Dean Laber Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce that Dean Laber, age 68, was promoted to glory on August 25, 2025, and is now home with the Lord, after passing peacefully at his home in Myrtle Point, Oregon.

Dean was born January 19, 1957 in Sacramento, California, the son of Dan and Ada Laber, who preceded him in death.  He is survived by his sister, Pamela Robison.

Dean grew up in Sacramento and enjoyed playing baseball, golfing, and bowling, eventually becoming an excellent bowler with multiple perfect games to his credit.

Dean graduated from Casa Robles High School and immediately enrolled in the Army serving his country during the Vietnam War.  Following his military service, he returned to the Sacramento area continuing his love for mechanic work.   Dean spent several years racing Modifieds at the American Speedway in Roseville, California, as well as other area speedways.

Dean moved to Myrtle Point, Oregon 28 years ago, and worked for Weyerhaeuser until they closed their doors.  He drove log truck, worked with his neighbors collecting trash, managed the Coquille Bowling Alley until it closed, and finally was a carrier for FedEx until he retired.

Dean was proud of his military service, loved being a part of the Coquille Elks Lodge, was a devoted 49er fan, and enjoyed golfing and being involved in running the Senior Scramble at the Elks Lodge.  Above all, he loved his family and friends, and was a true and loyal friend until he took his last breath.

His big heart, encouragement, and laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm @ the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge #1935, located at 54942 Maple Heights Road, Coquille, Oregon 97423 - (541) 572-1935.   A potluck will follow and we ask that you bring a dish to share.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Wounded Warriers, or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
