David Robinson

Dave was born on April 19, 1948, the eldest son of Freda and Clarence Robinson in Ainsworth, Nebraska. The Robinson family moved to Winston, Oregon in 1965 where Dave graduated from Douglas High School in 1966. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Air Police which included a tour in Viet Nam.

 

After a three year courtship, Dave married Deanna Lander on June 21, 1969. For a short time the couple made their home in Idaho where Dave worked for the Nampa Idaho Police Department. They returned to Oregon in 1971 and for the next decade Dave continued his career in law enforcement, working first for the Coos County Sheriff’s Office and later for the Myrtle Point Police Department. He worked as a patrol, marine and timber deputy and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant while with the Sheriff’s Office.

 

In 1982, Dave left law enforcement to take a position with the U.S. Postal Service. He delivered the mail for many years in Myrtle Point and held the position of postmaster in Broadbent, Langlois and Bandon where he worked until he retired in 2017. 

 

At the time of his death, Dave was the longtime pastor of the Myrtle Point Foursquare Church. He also served as Chairman of the Myrtle Point School Board and as the Myrtle Point Police Department Chaplain.

 

Papa, as his grandchildren called him, was kind and gentle, wise and diplomatic, witty but also known for his endless ‘dumb’ jokes. He loved to write and was a published author. He also wrote a weekly newspaper column on disaster preparedness.

 

Dave is survived by his brother Wendell, wife of nearly 50 years, Dee, son Scott and wife Angela, daughter Melody, ‘adopted’ son and daughter Andy and Debbie Piburn and their children and grandchild Ally, Drew and Audrina,  grandsons Brogan, Landon and Aiden, and granddaughters Alex and Kenzie.

 

A memorial service will be held June 2, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at the Oaks Pavilion, Coos County Fairgrounds.
