Bonnie Stone Obituary

Bonnie Louise Stone passed away peacefully at home in Myrtle Point, Oregon, with family members close at her side, on December 31, 2023. She lived a beautiful and fulfilling life of 96 years. In honoring her wishes, no public service will be held. Instead, a family graveside service will be held in loving memory of her life.

Bonnie was born on April 5, 1927, in North Bend, Oregon to Lloyd and Charlotte (Rooke) Lackey. She attended Broadbent Elementary School, Myrtle Point High School, and Oregon State University. She married the love of her life Kenneth Stone in Astoria, Oregon and together they raised two sons. She and Ken owned and operated a small beef cattle ranch in Broadbent. She worked as a secretary for the Myrtle Point School District for twenty years before her retirement. She moved to Myrtle Point after Ken's death in 1986.

Bonnie had many interests. She was a skilled quilter and crafter. She and her dear friend Barbara Robison participated in many craft fairs in Myrtle Point and surrounding areas with hundreds of items they had crafted. Her quilts were donated to many auctions and given to family and friends as gifts. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers at homes in Broadbent and Myrtle Point. Reading was her passion and she spent countless hours with a book or kindle in her hand.

Bonnie was active in church and community volunteer work. She was a charter member of the Myrtle Point Community Church, serving as church secretary and as a trustee. She was a thirty-year member of the South Coast Education Service District (ESD) and served several terms as board chairperson. She was a member of the local, county, and national Grange. She was active in the Myrtle Point Senior Center, serving as treasurer and board member. She was a past board member of the Coos County Logging Museum, the Coos County Fair, the Myrtle Point Library, and the Coos County Historical Association.

Bonnie was an exemplar wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was so proud of the accomplishments of her family. She was a friend to many and cultured friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Kenneth. She is survived by her son Martin Stone of Coquille, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Darcie Stone of Broadbent, grandchild Sara, and great grand-children Madeline and Adrian of Gresham.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Bonnie's memory to the Myrtle Point Senior Center,1441Doborout Street, Myrtle Point, Oregon 97458, or a charity of your choice.
