Ann King March 3, 1940 - October 3, 2025
Ann Claire King, aged 85, passed away after a very short illness on October 3, 2025, in Coos Bay, Oregon. Her life was a testament to resilience, intellect, and compassion—a journey that spanned continents and touched countless lives.
Born on March 3, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts, Ann was the daughter of Claire (Maguire) and William J. King. She grew up in the Boston area and began her academic journey at Girls Latin School before graduating from Milton High School. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to the University of Maryland, where she earned her undergraduate degree and to Boston University where she earned her masters degree- achievements that reflected her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.
Ann’s professional life was as dynamic as it was inspiring. After high school, she embarked on a career as a secretary that took her across the globe. Her adventurous spirit is perhaps best captured in a cherished family photograph of her with the King of Siam—now Thailand—a symbol of the extraordinary places her work led her.
Her career culminated in Germany at Ramstein Air Force Base, where she served as a management analyst until retirement. Yet even retirement could not contain Ann’s drive; she was called back into service for a special assignment in Kenya—another chapter in a life defined by purpose and global engagement.
Ann’s passion for justice and human rights found expression through her active involvement with Amnesty International. She also brought people together through public speaking as president of the Irish section of Toastmasters International. A true citizen of the world, Ann embraced every opportunity to connect with others and advocate for what she believed in. She and Rick traveled extensively, to all seven continents. They rented or traded houses for a few months at a time and extended their hospitality by inviting family and friends to join them.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Rick Toth; her brothers David (Annmarie) King and Phillip (Deborah) King; brothers-in-law Michael (Sherwin Davidson) Toth and Nick (Joni Rand) Toth; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and courage.
Ann was predeceased by her parents Claire (Maguire) and William J. King, and by her older brother Kenneth, to whom she devoted.
A world traveler with an indomitable spirit, Ann lived a life rich with meaning and marked by service to others. She was beloved by all who knew her—a beacon of kindness whose memory will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in her remarkable journey.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Ann has requested that in lieu of flowers or a celebration of life, those wishing to honor her life make a donation to their favorite charity in her name.
