Agnes Alice DeSoto (née Metzgus), a revered mother, grandmother, and pillar of her community, was born on January 26, 1927, in Gold Beach, Oregon. She peacefully passed away on September 8, 2025 in Coquille, Oregon, leaving behind a profound legacy of love and service. She was the cherished daughter of Gus and Agnes Metzgus. She was a devoted sister to Helen (deceased), Carolyn, Marie, Cecilia, Angela, Gus, and Mike.
On February 15, 1953, Alice was united in marriage with Steven Anthony DeSoto. Together, they raised ten children: Steve, Dick (Nancy), Susan, Jim, Rita (Marc), Bob (Dawn), Bill, Janet (Lou), Michael, and Donald. Grandchildren: Lani (Garrett), John (Jena), Laci (Dustin), Rob (Janine), Ben, Maegan, Steven, and Logan, and her great-grandchildren, Serena, Rex, and Rad.
Alice was a truly remarkable woman whose dedication and contributions touched countless lives. She worked at Mast hospital when young and later in the Myrtle Point school district. She was honored as Citizen of the Year in Myrtle Point and served as the Coos County Fair Grand Marshal in 2005, a testament to her deep community spirit. For over six decades, from 1950 to 2012, she was a dedicated life member of the VFW Auxiliary. A gifted author, family historian, and genealogist for Coquille Valley Genealogy Society, she proudly shared her heritage as a descendant of a Mayflower family, six veterans of the American Revolution, and early Oregon settlers.
Alice will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. Her unwavering love, dedication to her community, and legacy of service will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
