Merlin Glenn Wheeler was born on March 27, 1940 to Clara (Tranby) and Arthur L. Wheeler in Redmond, Oregon, and passed away at home in Bandon, Oregon on August 26, 2017.

Growing up, he lived in many places including Fairbanks, AK, Kennewick, WA, Portland, OR, Las Vegas, NV, and San Jose, CA, where he graduated high school and met and married his wife of 57 years, Carol Aldridge.

They had two children, Blaine “Scott”, born in San Jose, CA and Vicki Lynn, born in Las Vegas, NV.  In 1967, they moved to Bandon, where they owned and operated two motels.  Upon retirement, he became a cranberry farmer, where he enjoyed spending his time.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, all forms of auto racing, collecting fine wine, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

Mel is survived by his wife, Carol; his son Scott and daughter-in-law Sherri, daughter Vicki and son-in-law Charlie Smith, all of Bandon, and sister Loretta Briley of Bend.  He had four grandchildren, Nikki and her husband Josh Moore, Justin Smith, and Shane and Erin Wheeler. He had two great-grandchildren, Forrest Charles and Finley Clara Moore, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Arthur “Lee” Wheeler.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11:00am, at Amling-Schroeder chapel in Bandon, Oregon, with a reception to follow at the Bandon VFW hall on Bates Road.
