Funeral Service for Gordon Cooke, 84, of Myrtle Point, will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Myrtle Point.  Private interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery.

Gordon was born on June 29, 1931 in Wenatchee, WA to Gordon and Mae (Derting) Cooke.  He passed away December 27, 2015 in Coquille.

He grew up in Wenatchee and served his country in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Anchorage, AK during the Korean Conflict.  He met a young school teacher in Anchorage named Eleanor Veach at a square dance and they were married on April 4, 1952.  They lived in Port Angeles WA for six years before moving to Oregon in 1960 settling in Willamina until 1967 when they moved to Fairview. Gordon worked as road maintenance superintendant for the Bureau of Land Management for over 20 years.  He was very active in the community and Coos County.  He served as Boy Scout Leader, 4-H leader, baseball coach, Coos County Fair Board, Fairview Cemetery Board, Fairview volunteer fire department, Fairview Community Church, Cattleman’s association and he ran for county commissioner.  He also loved to hunt and fish.  Gordon was an avid story teller and prankster.

Gordon is survived by his children, Howard and Vicky Cooke of Myrtle Point; Jon and Sherry Cooke of Quilcene, WA; Lila and Ben Mason of Port Orchard, WA; brother, Dean; sisters, Marilyn, Virginia, Vivian and Rosalie; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; companion Arlene Guerin and her daughter, Dani and husband John, one grandson and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, son Robert and daughter Cynthia.

He is now present with the Lord in a place where there is no cancer, blood clots or pneumonia.
